Courses and supervision C SET offers graduate courses and supports students who wish to write a Bachelor or Master Thesis on a topic related to security and defence economy. C SET offers three courses as part of the Master Program in International Affairs and Governance (MIA) at the University of St.Gallen. These courses (4 ECTS each) are open to all HSG Master Students (MIA: Specific Course, others: Independent Electives). Exchange students and guest students are also welcome to attend or audit the class. In the Fall Semester the course "Managing Defense – Management im Verteidigungsbereich" is taught in German and "International Cooperation: Case Studies in Security, Economics and Technology" is taught in English. In the Spring Term we offer the new course "New Challenges in International Security: International Conflicts, Insurgency and Terrorism" (English). Bachelor's and Master's Theses Students who wish to concentrate on a question at the interface of security policy, economics and technology have the opportunity to write their Bachelor or Master Thesis on a topic related to this academic field. C SET supports these students with academic advice, assistance in finding a supervisor and helps them conduct innovative research by providing contacts with potential interviewees. Students are welcome to contact C SET staff directly to discuss their ideas and how to proceed with their work. Prior to the first contact we advise students to read the instructions "Hinweise für das Verfassen einer Wissenschaftlichen Arbeit" by Prof. James W. Davis (availiable here, only German). Students chose their topic themselves. Topics of past Bachelor und Master Theses were, for example: "Military Transformation in Germany – Following the US lead into a Revolution in Military Affairs"; "Driving forces behind the Operation Atalanta"; "Schweizer Armee und Sicherheitspolitik im Rahmen der Bedrohungslage des 21. Jahrhunderts"; or, "Policies of Humanitarian Mine Action – Comparing the DRC".
